Contact UsIf the home you're buying or selling has a septic system, it's in your best intertest to have a full septic check. A new system could cost you upwards of $20,000. Be sure you're prepared.
During the home buying or selling process, it is important to have a septic inspection performed separately from a traditional home inspection. A standard dye test that a home inspector provides is NOT a septic inspection. You need to know what is going on inside your septic tank. Are there roots? Is it corroded? Is the system leeching up into the yard or flowing directly into a creek, pond or river? If you purchase a home, you do not want to be on the hook for these issues, so spending a little extra up front can save you thousands later.
Experts say that septic systems can last anywhere from 25-40 years. I have personally seen septic systems from the 1950's that were in great shape and working fine. There are many factors that determine the life of a septic system: soil type, drainage, owner care and maintenance are a few. If taken care of properly, your septic system should have a long life with minimal cost.
