Unfortunately, this bright green river isn't part of some St. Patty's Day festivity. This is the result of a septic inspection I performed right here in Indiana. My environmentally safe green dye was poured into a septic system that was dumping straight into a creek. Decades ago, this was pretty standard practice in rural areas throughout Indiana. You can still find it today; actually more often than you think. This is why having a thorough septic inspection is so important, not just simply flushing dye down a toilet. You need someone with experience that can make sure your septic system is treating sewage legally. If you buy a home where the septic system is dumping into a waterway, even without you knowing, the Health Department will make you replace the whole system once they find out. It is very important to have a thorough inspection from someone who will take the time to get all the information about your system. You do not want to move in and then a few months later find yourself on the hook for a $20,000 dollar replacement.
